Affordy offers the most feasible package that includes a user friendly and easy to use Operating System enabling people who are used to Windows XP a smoother migration than Vista with better performance, lower cost and an extensive, ready to use, software package.
Affordy Ltd. announced today availability of TITAN - a bundle of high quality hardware and innovative software that includes an operating system configured to look and feel very similar to Windows XP, bundled with a complete suite of applications. The package includes open source programs, Microsoft programs and applications that were specifically developed by Affordy, which works out of the box without the need for complicated installations. TITAN offers high performance, full Windows compatibility and premium technical support, all at less than 33% the cost of a comparable Windows solution.
After Microsofts'™ announcement that it will stop selling Windows XP in June 2008 and will cease technical support for Windows XP in April 2009, and facing the strong market resistance to move to Windows Vista, most PC users are facing a serious dilemma, said Yoram Nissenboim, Affordy CEO. Starting in July 2008, every new PCs will be sold with Windows Vista. This means that hardware requirements will dramatically increase and users will have to adapt to a new interface - a process that might prove painful, expensive and will slow down most daily operations. Up until now, there was no alternative because there was no substitute that was reliable, inexpensive, with a familiar user interface and contained all the software that people needed. Now, for the first time, people will have a truly viable alternativeTITAN Laptop and TITAN Desktop from Affordy.
TITAN computers are based on an Operating System that has lower hardware requirements than Windows and is called Ubuntu Linux. This is the most popular Linux desktop Operating System. While the CPU and memory resources required to run TITAN are relatively low, it delivers very high performance. To ensure that the computer will suit the user’s needs for many years, TITAN computers are supplied with Dual Core CPU and 1 GB memory (even though the system works well using single core CPU and 512 MB RAM ). The Operating System was modified and adapted to enable XP users an easy migration without the need to learn a new user interface. For example, the “Start†button is exactly where they are used to, the menus are similar, and even shortcuts were modified to match the familiar Windows shortcuts. In addition, information security in this system is very high, and it won first place in a survey compared to Windows and Mac.
The software packages that come with TITAN are a result of a 12 months research by Affordy that included feedback from a large number of users. Some of the programs include Microsofts'™ Internet Explorer, a program that enables files and printers sharing within a Windows network and for those interested, Microsoft Office may be installed (for a small fee). Affordy does not intend to compete with Microsoft, but instead our aim is to provide users with a solution suitable for their needs without the need to change their work habits and without having to get into unnecessary says Mr. Nissenboim. In addition to Microsoft programs, a TITAN computer comes with over a hundred pre-installed programs that cover the entire range of applications requested by PC users: internet, Office, graphics, multimedia, information security and games. The task of selecting the right programs was difficult. There are over 23,000 open-source packages available for the Ubuntu Operating System. Affordys'™ tested a wide range of programs and selected from this seemingly endless offering, the applications that provide the most suitable replacement for the common Windows applications. In cases where there was no suitable open source program, Affordy’s R&D team developed a new application and included it in the pre-installed package.
To enhance users experience and overcome any conceivable obstacle, Affordy offers full technical support for both hardware and all software packages.
For years we have been hearing about Open Source and Linux desktop solutions. People have tried using them from time to time only to give up after a frustrating experience. Not all hardware components that are Windows compatible are also Linux compatible. The standard programs supplied with Linux Operating System are inadequate and some of them do not meet the requirements of PC users. In addition, due to the multitude of Linux distributions and open source programs versions, when users encountered a problem they were faced with inadequate technical support for their system. TITAN is the only solution in the market that provides a complete, robust solution, that meets the needs of users that are used to Windows XP in both home and business environments at low cost with superior performance and with full technical support.
When I bought my TITAN Laptop I planned on using the hardware but reformatting the hard disk and installing Windows, said Sarit Averbach a long time user of TITAN. When I received the computer, I decided to give it a try and could not believe that all the pre-installed software is royalty-free. I use QCAD instead of the expensive Autocad, Cinepaint as replacement for Photoshop and Thunderbird as a replacement for Outlook express. It works perfect for me with no compatibility problems and I recommended TITAN for all my colleagues.
What up until recently seemed like a non-viable option, has now become the most straightforward solution for PC Operating System. The emergence the TITAN is giving Windows users a painless, effortless and affordable way to avoid the hassle of migrating to Vista, a prospect that scares most Windows users. The TITAN family of computers that include hardware designed for the environment and pre-installed software packages saves users headaches, time and money. TITAN is the most convenient way for Windows users to move forward.
